Hunwick's Egg by Mem Fox- Has a pretty good story at it's core. The illustrations are perhaps best viewed closer up but this is a nice story to read aloud. Excellent use of the page with the illustrations and the text commingling.
First the Egg by Laura Vaccaro Seeger - A wonderful book about the contrast
